Workshop Topic

Social Cues

Social cues in Social VR, including eye contact, gestures, head movement, and conversation openings in virtual environments.

Social cues help users understand attention, intention, comfort, and group flow inside shared virtual environments. The original workshop asked what cues are missing from current platforms and which cues are necessary for natural collaboration.

Examples include eye contact, hand gestures, head movement, posture, avatar orientation, spatial audio, and cues that signal when someone wants to enter or leave a conversation.

Without these cues, Social VR becomes less like a room and more like a multiplayer spreadsheet with floating heads. Nobody asked for that, but here we are.
